After famously donating an Australian tank to a museum, adding a football mode to the game, and other interesting developments, the folks over at Wargaming have gone a little further with their World of Tanks franchise. Whoever had Comic Book series in the “What will World of Tanks get next?” pool, you may now collect your winnings. Yes, for reasons, there is a comic book based on World of Tanks on the way.
For those still reading, here’s the pitch you’re after:
Set during the epic tank battles of 1944, which proved to be pivotal on the outcome of the war, World of Tanks: Roll Out follows a crew of young British tankers as they push deeper into post-D-Day Normandy, toward a battalion of seasoned German armoured units. Flanked and tracked by the Germans at almost every turn, the inexperienced British tankers traverse a battle-scarred France while the danger around them escalates and the outcome of the war hangs in the balance.
This comic will be written by Garth Ennis (Preacher, War Stories, The Punisher), illustrated by Carlos Ezquerra (Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, War Stories Vol. 2), and feature cover art by Isaac Hannaford (Halo: Reach, The Punisher).
The World of Tanks game itself will receive tie-in tanks, allowing players the opportunity to play as their favourite tank from the comic. There’s even a video to show off the comic.
We can’t predict what Wargaming might add to the World of Tanks franchise next, but we guarantee it’ll make everyone ask “You WoT, mate?”
